The carnival parade in Rio at the world famous Sambadrome is one the most hotly contested talent shows in the world. From "it's origins", the parade has been developed to such a degree that it is now a competition that pits each "school of samba" against the other to create the most extravagant and mind blowing carnival parade every year.
There are serious "judging criteria" that are discussed at length on live national TV with the aid of slow motion feedback, analyzing a small misstep or a small gap in the parade, that could cost them valuable points and possibly the glory of being crowned the Carnival Champions.

During the year many people are employed in the favelas, who work feverishly on the intricate costumes that are paraded during carnival. No detail is spared and the time and effort that goes into the creation of this spectacular is phenomenal.
