With a population of 20 million people Sao Paulo is the biggest city in Brazil and one of the largest in the world. Three times the area of Paris Sao Paulo is a melting pot of many different cultures, identities and attitudes.

For those interested in history the centre of the city has been restored giving a glimpse back to the early days of the city; where the rich rubber and coffee barons from the nearby port of Santos built their homes.

It is worth just coming to Sao Paulo just to eat. The huge population has demanded a large range and amount of restaurants. Combine this with a culinary tradition of high quality service, great restaurant design and a culture of training innovative and exciting young chefs, makes Sao Paulo the gourmet's dream.

Sao Paulo has the largest Japanese population outside of Japan, matching the Japanese cooking traditions with the high quality produce that Brazil is famous for, creating arguably the best Japanese cuisine in the world.

Due to the waves of Italian migration, Pizza is a favourite of the Paulistano, as those who live in the city are called. They are very proud of their pizza and claim that they have better pizza than the Italians. This maybe just pride in their city but it is truly something that can not be missed.

The City that does not close

For those more interested in the night life there is something for everyone. From quiet bars selling “Petiscos,” small bar snacks to some of the biggest clubs in the world, it has a reputation as being one of the best places in the world to go out in.

In a city of so many people, too much work, an uncertain future and an absence of a beach to relax on like in Rio de Janeiro, the Paulistanos use their nightlife as a pressure valve.
