DAY BY DAY ITINERARY
RIO DE JANEIRO Back to Brazil Highlights
DAY 2
Day free for relaxation. (B) We suggest that you take an afternoon walk along Copacabana
Beach and up to the incredible Copacabana Fort which was built on the eve of WW1. Relax in the café and enjoy the view of the beach at sunset.
DAY 3
Full day city tour of Rio de Janeiro. Pass the world famous Copacabana and Ipanema beaches which attract an endless array of locals & visitors alike with their allure of sun, sand and an insight into the true Carioca lifestyle.
Take a tram through semi-tropical rainforest up to Christ the Redeemer and experience the spectacular views of Rio de Janeiro. Enjoy a unique buffet style lunch at a traditional barbeque house. Continue through the downtown area, visiting the metropolitan cathedral and then on to the famous Sugar Loaf Mountain.
Travel to the top by cable car enjoying the 360 degree view of Rio & its famous beaches before returning to your hotel. Evening free - We suggest you have a meal at the Garota de Ipanema bar (The Girl from Ipanema Bar) tonight where the famous song was written by Vinicius de Moraes and Tom Jobim. (B,L)
DAY 4
Morning Historical Rio Tour visiting the centre of the city. Learn about the people and events that shaped Rio and the rest of Brazil. Visit the famous Confeitaria Colombo.
This elegant café first opened its doors to the public over 100 years ago and during its time has hosted many of Brazil's high society including past presidents, politicians and famous actors. Today, this sophisticated tearoom also provides a stunning backdrop for filming of Brazil's other religion, the novella (soap opera).
Visit includes a Brazilian coffee and one of their famous pastries for you to enjoy whilst soaking up its past.
Afternoon airport transfer and flight to Iguaçu Falls. Transfer to your hotel. Evening free. (B)
IGUAÇU FALLS
DAY 5
Early departure for a full day visit to the Brazilian side of Iguaçu Falls which boasts the best overall
views of this breathtaking natural wonder. The highlight of today will be a boat ride up to the mouth of the falls where you will experience its pure force and thunderous sound*. Afternoon return to the hotel; (B)
DAY 6
Morning trip to Argentinean side of Iguaçu Falls. There are two walking tracks on this side, the Superior walk is approximately 40 mins long and takes you to the top of the Falls which offers an incredible view and the Inferior walk is approximately 30 minutes and takes you to the bottom of the Falls.
It is here you will come face to face with the Devil's Throat, the most powerful part of the Iguaçu Falls and only accessible via Argentina^
Afternoon airport transfer & flight to Salvador. Transfer to your hotel (B)
SALVADOR
DAY 7
Early departure for a half day city tour. Visit the Pelourinho, the UNESCO registered historical centre of Salvador, which is home to the finest collection of colonial architecture in Latin America.
During the day it is a thriving commercial centre and by night the sounds of popular Brazilian music resound through its winding cobblestone streets.
Continue to the Church of Bonfim, the most revered in Salvador. See its beautiful frescoes, mosaics and thousands of colored prayer ribbons hanging on its gates - hung by visitors seeking good luck. (B)
DAY 8
Day at leisure. We suggest that you take the opportunity to revisit the Pelourinho or take a trip up to the fisherman's village of Praia de Forte to the North of Salvador (approx 1 and a half hours by bus) (B)
DAY 9
Private transfer to airport
* Spray jackets provided on request for the boat trip
^ The Argentinean side of the Falls can be slippery so good walking shoes are recommended.
